A heavy goods vehicle (HGV), also large goods vehicle (LGV) or medium goods vehicle, is the European Union (EU) term for any truck with a gross combination mass (GCM) of over 3,500 kilograms (7,716 lb). When you renew your licence, you'll receive a licence that is valid for five years. At present, an HGV driver has to take a medical every five years after age 45, up to age 65 when it becomes an annual requirement.
